syslog question

Thanks but after I add in 
!local6.info;*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none 
/var/log/messages

I got the following starting system logger failed. 
And /var/log/messages doesn't log anymore. why? 


[root at linux root]# /etc/init.d/syslog restart
Shutting down kernel logger:                          
    [  OK  ]
Shutting down system logger:                          
    [  OK  ]
Starting system logger:                               
    [FAILED]
Starting kernel logger:                               
    [  OK  ]
