USB modem on RH7.3

Good day to all

I am trying to get a USB modem ( UM9100 ) going on 
RH7.3  ( 2.4.18-3 ). Downloaded and installed the slmodem-pack.
Before I go to the dial-in and dial-back server parts I decided to 
test with minicom. Using the ttySL0 device, I can access the modem,
get RING's when dialing in but when I dial out I get 
fifo overrun and underrun errors on the console-display ( and the logs ).

Anyone with some experience with this that can point me in the right
direction ??
