java on RH AS 3.0?

OK, I find the link below helpful for explaining the alternatives mechanism, but I don't know how to configure alternatives to recognize the sun java rpm that I installed that put the binary in /usr/java/j2sdk... I think I'm suppoed to use the /usr/sbin/alternatives command rather than manually changing symlinks in /etc/alternatives.  Any help would be appreciated.
