Please make sure you backup before editing any file, but you can easily
change the version number of sendmail by doing the following:

In /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, just do a search for 'version' and you will find
the version of sendmail:

# Configuration version number
DZ8.12.11

Change it to what ever you want. You might have to recompile sendmail to
have the changes made permenent.

If you want to completely hide the version sendmail sends out, do the
following:
Change: SmtpGreetingMessage=$j Sendmail $v/$Z; $b
To:SmtpGreetingMessage=$j $bThis will only broadcast the hostname and time
no more version info will be braodcast.Hope this helps!SW
