One of your options is to install Win2K on your system and then add
Cygwin to that.  That will allow you to work with a bash shell, do some
scripting and development, but not give you the rest of the OS.

Another option is to dual-boot your system.

Another option is to add memory which isn't too expensive these days for
most memory types.
