I've not done this on RHEL 4, but on Fedora Core 3 from which it's 
supposed to be based.  It'll be a bit different, according to the 
release notes at:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-notes/es-x86/ 


Drop down to:

"kernel source code" and review that section.
