How to display IP of ssh user in message?

Thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. Now, for the second
part...is there a way to display the user's IP address in the banner?

See /etc/ssh/sshd_config
There's a commented-out entry for Banner. I think that's what you're
after. $ man sshd_config
