How to redirect kernel/console messages

Try adding this line to /etc/syslogd.conf

kern.*                          /var/log/kernel

and restart syslogd (/sbin/service syslogd restart)

If this is to be a permanent situation I'd suggest modifying logrotate
accordingly, or else ...
