Stephen, A lot of things can go wrong with starting the GUI. If you would post the full text of the error you receive, along with your /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/xorg.conf and what video card/monitor you have, we would be able to make a better guess about what's going wrong. -Mindy
