kswapd

Sorry, I was throwing around numbers carelessly.  I'll be more
clear...

http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2004-550.html   talks about the
kswapd issue and recommends upgrading to package
kernel-2.4.21-27.EL.  We actually didn't do this, because by the time
we got around to it, the following had been released:

http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2004-689.html   doesn't talk about
the kswapd issue, but recommends upgrading to kernel-2.4.21-27.0.1.EL
for security reasons.  Naturally, I assumed that this would include
the "kswapd" fix in kernel-2.4.21-27.EL.  In short we are presently
running kernel-2.4.21-27.0.1.EL, and still have our problem.  

http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2005-043.html  is what references
the kernel-2.4.21-27.0.2.EL package.  We had troubule with this
upgrade and backed out.  The point of my comments before was that I
don't have any reason to think upgrading to this version will help
with our problem, because the errata that announces it (2005-043)
doesn't say anything about our problem.  

In short, I still have no confidence that anything we can do inside
EL3 will solve our problem.  This is why I'm tempted to try EL4... it
seems possible that whatever is plaguing us with the 2.4 kernel won't
do so under a 2.6 kernel.  Thoughts?
