Nfs problem

Hi all,

i am exporting one derectory from my server and on the client i mount that derectory.my problem is that when the server going down or in case of link failure ,mine client goes into uninterptable sleep-mode.

on dmesg(client machine) it gives me
nfs: server 192.168.19.33 not Responding, still trying. 

how can i detect on the client machine that mine nfs server is going
down or its link failure,so that i can unmount that derectory.

Any approach to get rid of this problem is wel come.
