trying to upgrade glibc, rqrd to install firefox
yesterday I got partway there
with one long rpm -Uvh command
both retrieving from fedoralegacy and installing
which evidently succeeded on the first two out of seven .rpm
and then stalled,
(possibly bc of a problem w my dslmodem or linksys router
that interrupted internet access)
w result that glibc- and glibc-common exist in both versions
2.3.2-4.80.8 and 2.2.93-5
and other five remain only in 2.2.93-5
[root at bootp dglibcrpm]# rpm -qa |grep glibc
glibc-profile-2.2.93-5
glibc-common-2.2.93-5
glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.20
glibc-debug-static-2.2.93-5
glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.8
glibc-devel-2.2.93-5
glibc-utils-2.2.93-5
glibc-debug-2.2.93-5
glibc-2.3.2-4.80.8
glibc-2.2.93-5
[root at bootp dglibcrpm]#
repeated attempts after regaining internet access all seemed to hang
today, separately downloaded all the seven .rpm
and attempted using -Fvh as per advice seen on google
[root at bootp drpmgl]# rpm -Fvh glibc*
warning: glibc-2.3.2-4.80.8.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID
db42a60e
Preparing... ###########################################
[100%]
<<< no other response,
<<<< ps shows no progress
<<<<this window wont even respond to a CTRL-C
Killed <<<< from another window after observing no progress
[root at bootp drpmgl]#
so then tried Uvh
[root at bootp drpmgl]# rpm -Uvh glibc*
warning: glibc-2.3.2-4.80.8.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID
db42a60e
Preparing... ###########################################
[100%]
package glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.8 is already installed
package glibc-2.3.2-4.80.8 is already installed
[root at bootp drpmgl]#
here the window doesnt hang
but none of the other old versions get upgraded
[root at bootp drpmgl]# rpm -qa |grep glibc
glibc-profile-2.2.93-5
glibc-common-2.2.93-5
glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.20
glibc-debug-static-2.2.93-5
glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.8
glibc-devel-2.2.93-5
glibc-utils-2.2.93-5
glibc-debug-2.2.93-5
glibc-2.3.2-4.80.8
glibc-2.2.93-5
[root at bootp drpmgl]#
I am stumped;
and I currently have the above mix of versions
If i leave the system as is, what trouble can i expect?
Is it maybe worth trying to download old versions glibc,glibc-common .rpm
and trying to -Fvh or -Uvh just those two
to have only the old version
consistent thruout all the glibc*rpm
any advice much appreciated
Jack
