hostapd and wired config

Hi,
I am kinda newbie and was trying to make use of the
applciation called HostAP as a 802.1x authenticator. I
managed to install it on a RedHat 9, 2.4.20 kernel but
somehow can not make it functional. I am running
freeradius on the system and it is working fine. Even
the HostAPd is workingbut when I generate traffic that
touches this server HostAPd does not even care about
it. Did anyone give a try to this app before? any 
suggestions pls?
