How to manually start gnome?

Thanks for the tip Ed,

actually when I run "startx" I get the error that the command was not found. 
Similarly a locate for startx (after the database was built) returns 
nothing. I also checked for that log file (The XFree86) and I couldn't find 
it.

I'm running v. 4 of Enterprise WS
