Ulimit command only works after su

Try putting user sysbase into a particular group (the "@dba" refers to
the "dba" group):
@dba hard nofile 65535
@dba hard nproc 16384
I just did this to a fresh Oracle install and it works (AS 3.0).
In .bash_profile for the user I have:
# file handles and file desc max
ulimit -n 63536
ulimit -u 16384
