migrating user accounts to Linux

Even when using /etc/shadow, NIS gives a plaintext hash with #ypcat passwd.
So yes, some conversion is necessary, but as we all should know, that's
why Dennis & Ken gave us cat|cut|sort|tee|sed|awk... :)
