ramdisk as volume groups

Is it possible to configure ram disks to make 
a volume group..???  want to test vg stuff but dont have 
the disks to try things..  so thought hay.. have plenty of 
ramdisks to try this on.. but i cant seem to have fdisk 
lable the partion part without complaining.. 
and pvcreate /dev/ram* is not seen as a device ... 
 
If this isnt possilbe... 
how would i go about asking for a feature to linux kernel ?
