ssh login error

I think that your problem is described in the first error message - sshd
could not find the home directory for the user trying to login.

Is there a root's home directory /home/root in that server at the login
time? It could be accidentally deleted or placed on a partition which is
not mounted due to some reason (so it is better to have root home
directory in the root filesystem, usually as /root - it will be
available even in the case when mount of ordinary users' home partition
failed).
