Failover configuration

Hello,
  I have 2 redhat Linux server (OS Release 4). I want to configure for
failover configuration.(if 1 machine goes down the other one 
goes in operation automatically)  How can I do this? Is there any good
DOC?
I prefer to use Public Domain SW if possible.
