Hmmm...  Seems that some of my posts somehow don't get to the mailing
list...  Strange.

Anyhow, as I attempted to contribute in my original reply (that seems to
be silently discarded by the list for whatever reason), there's e2label
command.  It can read and write label onto device.  Just give it device
name as argument (for example e2label /dev/hda).  If you want to write
label, give it as second argument (e2label /dev/hda something).  You can
use empty argument to get rid of the label (e2label /dev/hda "").
