The NIS logins are hanging. Our NIS server is RHEL AS3. Please suggest.

Hi,
First of all check if ypbind has started.
Use the command /etc/init.d/ypbind status.
If it's started or you are able to start, it means
that the ypbind is able to connect to te server.
Second step would be to do a
ypcat passwd.
This should list the password entries form nis
database
The problem could be that the home directories are not
being mounted..Check on that as well
If you are unable to bind to the server
( /etc/init.d/ypbind start.. fails), then check the
file /var/yp/securenets on the server. This will have
the access resctirictions set on the nis server
Regards
Jerome
