jre plugin

Folks,

has anyone managed to get the jre working for firefox on a 64bit AMD box ?

firefox-1.0-12.EL4 with jre-1.5.0_07 from java.sun.com ?

I've tried linking the plugin to /usr/lib64/firefox-1.0/plugins and to ~/.firefox/plugins but get the following error when I try to run firefox

grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
cut: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
sed: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

slocate libc.so.6 gives me this

/lib64/tls/libc.so.6
/lib64/libc.so.6
/lib/tls/libc.so.6
/lib/i686/libc.so.6
/lib/libc.so.6

Ive googled but that hasn't been much help.
