exported file system says everyone can access it but /etc/exports doesn't show that

There is your problem I believe, there should be no space between your 
list and the permissions, so it should be :
/u01 hound,hound.llnl.gov,rman,rman.llnl.gov,ndel,ndel.llnl.gov(rw)
