Oracle on RHEL4 with ASM problem

This box is using 10Gr1.
We just removed /dev/sdp1 from ASM.
I created /dev/raw/raw1 bound to /dev/sdp1.
oracleasm createdisk for /dev/raw/raw1 failed saying /dev/raw/raw1 is not a block device.

Any ideas ?
