Multiple issues on new RHAS4 Update 4 install

I am trying to install AS4 Update 4 on a system that has been running RH9 fine.  I did a reinstall
of the system using AS4U4.  I am having two main problems with the system.

First, if I use DHCP the system is able to contact the network without a problem. However, if I
reinstall and assing an IP address to the same NIC it cannot contact the network.  I.E. I cannot ssh
to the router when assigned, but I can with DHCP.

Second, when I select packages to install I deselect all groups.  When the system reboots it boots
into Gnome (I believe).  I do not want X installed on this server.  Any ideas?
