[Q] how to set virtual IP on AS 4

Do any of you guys use the iproute2 package to add IP aliases?

   ip addr add xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev ethX

I'm trying to dig up some documentation that details the difference 
between using ifconfig and ip without success.  Any insight from the 
community?
