Sound Card detection

Hello All
   
  I have RHEL 4 on my laptop, i dont get or hear any sound ,when i run the hwbrowser from the command line it gives me that the sound card is detected, and i checked the speacker button and its not muted, would you plz tell me what to do in order for me to listen to sounds in my RHEL 4
