NIS server problem

 please help 
 
 i can't configure the NIS server 
 
 i made the following 
 
 1- add line in the /etc/sysconfig/network 
 NISDOMAIN= mydomain
 
 2- add in the /var/yp/Makefile 
 
 NOPUSH= true
 MERGE_PASSWD = true
 MERGE_GROUP = true
 
 
 3- start ypserv and portmap and yppasswdd servieces
 
 4- /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m
 
 
 then i get the following error
 
 failed to send 'clear' to local ypserv: RPC: Port mapper failureUpdating passwd.byuid...
 
 
 please help me
