Firewall rules and VPN

hello everyone

I have a windows VPN system behind a Linux firewall.  I tied every thing including port forwarding for the GRE and 1723. since I log the incoming traffic, I can see the traffic comming through.  However, when it start verifying username and password, the connection does not go through.  Please if any one have done this before, give me the idea how I should this be done.
