Try rebuilding the initrd:

mkinitrd --with=raid1 /boot/initrd-new-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)

and tell grub to use the new initrd. Maybe you lack the raid module in
the initrd.

Also a good idea would be checking the /proc/mdstat for the state of
your RAID devices. mke2fs /dev/md0 at each boot is not a solution IMHO.
