Issue booting new kernel

I don't know the original place where it died.  I don't have remote console, so when I came in and plugged in the monitor it was just a black screen.  Subsequent re-boots would get to the log replay, and re-boot again and again.

If you could further clarify what you mean by "would not boot", it could
help us see how far along the boot process actually got.
