cpu architecture

Thanks for every one i got it.
means my Laptop is x86_64 arch then
1) why VMWare shows that CPU is not x86_64 bit ?
output of uname -a is
Linux mangal.example.com 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 #1 SMP Tue Oct 30 13:18:33 EDT
2007  x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

2) But in one of PC the output of uname -a is
*****************
Linux mangal.example.com 2.6.9-22.ELsmp #1 SMP Mon Sep 19 18:32:14 EDT 2005
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
************************
Then i686 shows which arch ?
