If this is a critical system I would test this out on an identical
installation on identical hardware and test everything out first for a
period of time before moving the update to a production machine. I have
had problems before with this type of thing and will *never* do any type
of update on a production machine before it is tested out on a exact
duplicate machine with an identical installation of RHEL.

1. Download desired kernel update from Red Hat Network
2. I would copy the rpm to /root
3. rpm -ivh kernel-update.rpm
4. reboot

then when you reboot the new kernel will be the default I would make
sure you check for anything not working on the system if any thing is
giving you any problems you can reboot and select the old kernel from
the grub boot menu.
