Yup.
fdisk /dev/sda
p
and look at the partition listing, to make sure that it really is being seen as
/dev/sda.

As a last resort, you could burn yourself a copy of knoppix, and boot off that,
which gives you a full-blown Linux, and then look more... It usually can
identify all hardware.
