delays between prints jobs in cups 1.3

We recently moved an application from a rhel 3.7 system to a rhel 5.3
system.  This applications uses a lot of printers and we had to
"reconfigure" each as they could

not be copied over due to some filter support issue in cups.

 

We have noticed that many of our printers now have a delay between print
jobs that did not exist previously.  This can be as long as 4 seconds.
It appears to effect all of our post script printers.

I've tried using lpd, ipp, and socket (jet direct), but it is not
helping.  There does not appear to be delays between pages of the same
job, just in the transition.   Is there anything I can do to address
this.  It's not really a problem when we print a few jobs, but one user
in particular has to prints lots of jobs and its quite a nuisance for
her.
