off topic - excuse me

I recently installed RH 4.8 on a Dell 
Poweredge R710. I simply put the install cd
in the cdrom drive - which is first in the bios bootlist -
and booted, an dinsalled RH.

I have cause to reinstall RH 4.8 on this same machine -
and it will not recognize the boot cd 
( which is valis ).

The same thing happened on an identically 
configured system, dell poweredge 710.

Someone installed vmware on this system ,
and if I put the install cd in the cdrom drive
it simply ignores it.

Does anyone have any experience with this odd behavior ?
