User password problem on a password policy applied box

If you know the root password, you can logon from a terminal screen.
Just do CNTL + ALT + F2. You will get a terminal screen. Logon by
entering root + ENTER. You will be asked for the root password. After
you after you have logged type passwd and the username to change to user
password.
