I am well aware that this mailing list is purely for REDHAT, but you see there are system admins who work on both redhat and windows platform, so my question is fro them, and not for a egoist like you.Instead of suggesting unwanted things and wasting time mind your business. So please if you do not have answer to my question then please do not bother to use your figures on the keyboard. You first of all go to a nursery school, learn how to behave in the public forum... all_unreclaimable is a flag which, when set, tells the virtual memory

daemons not to bother scanning pages in the zone in question in order

to try to free memory.  Anyway, the DMA zone is insignificantly tiny

(16MB) that it cannot possibly have any effect in a 32GB machine.

By the way, there seems to be plenty of free HighMem memory, so the

problem cannot possibly be due to overcommit.

Based on the above, I could suggest two theories to explain what's happening:

1. you have a Normal zone starvation

Try to set vm.lower_zone_protection to something large enough like 100 MB:

sysctl -w vm.lower_zone_protection 100

If this theory is correct, then the setting should fix the issue.

2. you have a pagecache flushing storm

A huge size of dirty pages from the IO of large data sets would stall

the system while being sync'ed to disk.  This typically occurs once

the pagecache size has grown to significant sizes.  Mounting the

filesystem in sync mode (mount -oremount,sync /dev/device) would "fix"

the issue.  However, synchronous IO is painfully slow, but the test

would at least tell where the problem is.  If this turns out to be the

problem, then we could think of other less annoying options for a

bearable fix.

First: did it ever work? If so, what are the permissions on ~<user>/.ssh?

Second: if not,

         a) what does your system-auth look like?

         b) what files are in system[12]:~<user>/.ssh?

I actually just disabled PAM in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and it appears to

be working now. Is not using PAM a security issue?

Try this command :

 cd /etc/pam.d ; grep -lr pam_listfile .                 ( notice dot at the

end)

and see, if it lists any file that is using pam_listfile option.

if it is, paste the content of that file

I'm adding an HP laserjet printer that is on the IP network using 

system-config-printer

And choosing ldp/lpr it asks for a hostname and a printername.

Since this printer is on the IP network and not connected to a host specifically

What information do I need to put into the hostname field?

HI Dave,

Can you please clarify the request..Printer is not connected to any machine

in the network ? It should definitely have an IP associated with it..you can

give the hostname of the server printer is connected to and configure it as

ipp..

Hello,

I have a perlscript. I want to run that script at system startup(as a

startup daemon) in redhat.

i have put that script in /etc/init.d and try adding that to chkconfig using

[root at localhost init.d]# chkconfig --add changehttpadress

service changehttpadress does not support chkconfig

but that wont work since its a perl script(not bash).

So how can i run that in system startup. Need to add any daemon modules in

the perl script so that chkconfig will detect that as a valid service ?

Any suggestions and solutions is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have comments in the script that are similar to

these from atd?  These are required to make chkconfig work.

# chkconfig: 345 95 5

# description: Runs commands scheduled by the at command at the time \

#    specified when at was run, and runs batch commands when the load \

#    average is low enough.

# processname: atd

Note that you also have to create a file in /var/lock/subsystem

if you want the service to stop gracefully at shutdown.  For

example the atd script uses this: touch /var/lock/subsys/atd

I'll be interested to know if these two additions to a perl

script make it start and stop as expected.
