Java on RH enterprise 4

Edit "subscriptions to channels" and add the channel "RHEL AS (v. 4 for x86)
Extras"

Here are the Java RPM 1.5 (BEA, SUN, IBM, etc)
Install the package
# up2date-i java-1.5.0-ibm-1.5.0.0-1jpp_2rh.i386.rpm

And then you can modify the version of java to use.
[root at qwerty ~]# alternatives --config java

There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.

  Selection    Command
-----------------------------------------------
   1           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java
*+ 2           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-ibm/bin/java

Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number:
