Invitation to connect on LinkedIn

The issue comes about because idiots allow sites like LinkedIn, etc. to have 
full access to their address books.  This means that all addresses they have 
stored get a share of the love/spam.  The issue is not the social networks' 
fault, it's dumb list members (-:
