p8p1 ethernet won't connect to a network

I changed in the new server, but it does not make a network connection on
one of the subnets at school.

1. Instead of using eth0 as the default connection, the system wants to
use p8p1. I edited /etc/sysconf/network-scripts to change the device to
eth0 and I took out the UUID line. ifcfg-p8p1 was renamed to p8p1-ifcfg.

2.  My ifcfg-eth0 contains

DEVICE="eth0"
BOOTPROTO=static
IPAddess=136.16.167.11
GATEWAY=136.16.167.1
DNS1=10.2.2.10
BROADCAST=136.16.167.255
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
HWADDR="00:22:19:2B:7C:CC"
ONBOOT="yes"
TYPE="Ethernet"

When I restart the network, it says that eth0 is started. However,
ifconfig shows no ip address for it.

/var/log/messages contains
deactivating device  reason 40

Any ideas?

Thanks
