umount -f

I found this mailing list today while I was searching for 
the answer to this question:

Why ¨umount -f" for nfs does not force unmount as the man 
page says on RHEL WS3?  Do I have to recompile the kernel 
with support for it?

On the introduction part, I am sysadmin at the University 
of Rochester, NY, USA. We support a great variety of 
operating systems here.
