NIS Setup Issue

I know it might be something you have already checked, but make sure you
have the name of the NIS server in /etc/hosts and DNS if you use it. Also
check /etc/host.conf to make sure you are using hosts first followed by
bind.

Also double check all your NIS files /etc/yp.conf , /etc/sysconfig/network
( USENIS and NISDOMAIN) files for any syntax errors. Do you see any
messages in the log files at all ?

No joy.  It still comes up with the local password list.  It's like it's
not even bothering to check the NIS maps.
