SSH -X doesn't work without an export DISPLAY

I did a mistake in my subject. 
If I do an export DISPLAY the ssh -X is working well. It should be automatic 
with the X option of ssh. It s this point I don't understand, why ssh doesn't 
forward the X server as it's configured well .......
