You could try these google searches as "understanding bind dns" and "bind tutorial", since BIND is the default DNS server with redhat. -greg -- ?While it is possible to change without improving, it is impossible to improve without changing.? -anonymous ?only he who attempts the absurd can achieve the impossible.? -anonymous From ioqqoi at gmail.com Thu Mar 1 22:06:06 2007 From: ioqqoi at gmail.com (ismail bushra) Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2007 01:06:06 +0300 Subject: DNS configuration In-Reply-To: <45E74D88.8000202@netops.gvtc.com> References: <96bda4110703011336o78a3f45eg1f2717a9cb2ea038@mail.gmail.com> <45E74D88.8000202@netops.gvtc.com> Message-ID: <96bda4110703011406g546f7826va3dab0da28564f78@mail.gmail.com> I have to machine in my home running FC6 can I practice DNS without connecting to the Internet On 3/2/07, Greg Swift wrote: > > ismail bushra wrote: > > HI all; > > Since I passed RHCE exam and the exam not include DNS configuration I > > didn't take that as serious subject or matter. Currently logging is done to an NFS mount shared on both machines. Because of performance , a perceived concern over the potential of hanging servers if the NFS server has a problem and this single point of failure, we want to stop logging to the NFS mount point. The problem I have is that our hosting company does not advocate using GFS and I don't know what the most usual way of handling logging is in this kind of setup. Should we be using some kind of messaging architecture to handle logging? should we use a database? What do other SysAdmins do? For the apache logs themselves we use syslog, but we anticipate that as our traffic increases, that syslog will begin to falter. Ideally I'd like a generic approach for all our webserver logging. If it helps our front end apps are running php. Its output includes duplicates of every line. At every step, the number of duplicates increases by 1. This causes the output to become tens of thousands of lines long. 2. After its execution is completed, RHN reports that the pending errata remain unapplied. I am appending a fragment of an rhn_check output, from the start of the process when only a few duplicates of each line appear: Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Package gnupg - 1.4.5-12.i386 already installed and latest version Package gnupg - 1.4.5-12.i386 already installed and latest version Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Package tzdata - 2006m-2.fc6.noarch already installed and latest version Package tzdata - 2006m-2.fc6.noarch already installed and latest version Package tzdata - 2006m-2.fc6.noarch already installed and latest version Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Package emacs-leim - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-leim - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-leim - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-leim - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-common - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-common - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-common - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Package emacs-common - 21.4-17.i386 already installed and latest version Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
