I suggest you post the log files it could give some hints what the issue is

Good thinking and thank you for your continued assistance, but it still
isn't working.  I also tried a different Windows account so that I could
eliminate the possibility of an issue in my credentials file of having a !
in the previous password; still I have the same issues.
