in which case if cups is "really" unneccessary - you can provide a "plug" RPM 
that only "provides" above components without having any content. Haven't done 
it with Cups - but did do it before with other packages.

In short - try to force-remove cups (--nodeps). See if any of the system 
components broke afterwards (if anything is linked against it and such). If 
nothing broke - drop-in the "plug" and live happily ever after :)
