Kirby,
I've found that Red Hat is typically adverse to bumping major revisions
of software this late in the development cycle. RHEL 6 has been in
development for a long time and I doubt they will make such a major
change as upgrading Python to 2.7.
I remember being part of the RHEL 3 and 4 beta cycles and similar
requests were denied. When the beta is released, I believe they're
mainly concerned with Anaconda bug fixes and other other small software
glitches.
Just my 2 cents.
