The system most people use now, expecting that vendors never change the<br>
order in which they enumerate devices, I think is not very sane.<br>
<br></blockquote><div><br> Actually, it's worse than that.<br><br>Some recent machines don't discover devices in a deterministic fashion at all. The order can change randomly each time you power the machine on. This has been known to cause some excitement :-)<br>
