Hello James:
The first thing to try is to flush out the temporary db files:
# rm /var/lib/rpm/__db*
If that doesn't fix the problem, try rebuilding the rpm database:
# rpm --rebuilddb
If that doesn't work, get back to this list and we'll take a closer look.
